gNaXEL is a Java/SWT-based graphical XML editor, designed to be a learning tool on the methods of working with XML technologies. The project was launched with release 0.1.1(alpha), providing view-only functionality of XML documents. The release version of gNaXEL will provide viewing services of an XML document in a tree format. Full editing capability of the XML document within the tree view will also be provided. The XML document is also viewable "as-is" in straight text, and will be viewable within a web browser window formatted by the XSLT stylesheet of the user's choice. Eventually the capability to minimally view and edit DTD, XML schema and RELAX NG vocabularies will be added to gNaXEL. gNaXEL was written using Java in an effort to provide the same look and feel on multiple platforms. It was written using the Eclipse IDE, but was designed to run standalone. As a learning tool, it is assumed that a copy of Eclipse will be readily available on the target workstation. However, only the SWT libraries are required for gNaXEL to operate. gNaXEL also relies upon the Xerces XML libraries from the Apache project. More details on the gNaXEL project can be found on the project website at http://gnaxel.sourceforge.net. The release zip file with sources and the compiled classes for Fedora Core 1 Linux OS can be located on the downloads page at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=115777.
Initial public release of gNaXEL, assigned version number 0.1.1.
