Install X11. It's on your Installation DVD of SL under the Optional Installs.
And please don't post on several threads, this will only clutter information.

I FOLLOWED THESE INSTRUCTIONS FROM A PREVIOUS POST:
- quit any running GIMP and X11
- open 'Applications > Utilities > Console'
- select 'LOG DATABASE QUERIES > All Messages' from the top of the log list
- use the 'brush' icon to clear the content displayed in the current console window
- start GIMP
- select all messages (in the open console window) that appeared since the start of GIMP...

I've downloaded the correct version on GIMP for Snow Leopard users and added it to my application folder as indicated...... when I double click on the icon it will flash up and very quickly disappear........ please help.

I suppose this also affects the ordering of custom brushes, because the ordering of custom brushes in the palette doesn't make any sense and changing the file names doesn't affect it. But it does correspond to the ordering I get in the file dialog...

I just started using GIMP, can't wait to really get into it. Can I resize an image? I can't seem to find how to create a lower resolution image from a high one. Thanks.

Confirmed with GIMP-2.6.8 Leopard:
1) these files in $HOME are no longer used:
~/.gtk-bookmarks
~/.recently-used.xbel
2) these directories are no longer used
~/.config/gtk-2.0/
~/.gimp-2.6/
~/.local/share/Library/Application\ Support/Gimp/gegl/
~/.thumbnails/
The workaround to use symbolic links to the shared dotfiles in $HOME works ok for '.gtk-bookmarks' and '.thumbnails', but...

That's ok (for me, I find my way around, no issue) - and most Gimp users won't notice it. Just those Inkscapers that are likely to have both apps installed will notice (if at all ;-) and maybe some die-hard...
