I don't think you did anything to mess up your gimp. I had exactly the same problem and I don't think I did anything to cause it either, so it must have been one of the numerous vista nightly upgrades that caused my gimp to no longer function.
Anyway, the problem is apparently caused by some very old DLLs that exist within your C:\Windows\System32 directory. If you go in there and look for...

Me too. My menu has no Color, no Filter, no Plug-ins etc. File has only one option: Open previous items. This goes for 2.6.0 and 2.6.7 - I've tried both. I've been using 1.9 (?), 2.1, 2.2 and 2.4 versions previously, with 2000, XP and/or Vista, never had this problem before. Annoying. Better download 2.4 or something again, I guess?.
