No CMake was not considered during this projects infancy. I never thought anyone would be stupid enough to run this program on another platform than Linux. ;) I'm proved wrong.
If you are interested in porting this to CMake and see advantages for both native and cross compiling you are welcome. My silly attempts to be an automagican has been taken over by Dan McMahill as both automagican and...

I often only want to look at a couple of layers so having a quick way to toggle visibility of all layers would be very useful as otherwise you have to turn off all the layers individually.

Was cmake considered for the build process? With cmake, crosscompiling, out-of-source build and package creation is eased.
Is there interest in a cmake build environment? If so, I might try to find time. Porting the configure process however will not be easy and will require feedback from users of other platforms then mine (Linux-Suse).

From the comments, I'm assuming this ended up being a system configuration issue with the user, so I'm closing as "works for me". Please let me know if this is incorrect.
Cheers,
Julian.

Uwe,
Thanks for the patch. It looks good, and I've applied it to git master. I made a small change to the English wording, but it looks good otherwise.
Cheers-
Julian.

Cream Mask are often charged after the number of pads used. So keep count of the total number of invocations of all apertures which should be that number.

Ubuntu 9.10 has applied a fix for this problem, and printing should work now with this test file.
