Geist3D is a graphics engine complete with an integrated development environment. It combines an extensible Scene Graph API with a Petri Net runtime kernel, the Lua scripting engine and rigid body physics. After 2 years, Geist Software Labs has released a new version of Geist3D under a more liberal license than before. The new source release contains the basic scene tree library including over 30 node types, Lua scripting interface and physics engine. The open source components are packaged with the Geist3D editor in a linkable VC++ 2005 project making it is possible to create new types of nodes which seamlessly integrate with the Geist3D framework. Although the open-source code is packaged with editor, the scene graph library can also be used on a standalone basis. Over the past two years the development has mainly focused on building an extensible scene graph architecture based on OpenGL 2.0. There already exist a number of extensions for planet rendering, 2D user interface widgets and large scale terrain rendering. We now encourage developers to extend the scene graph library and participate in the existing independent game development project hosted by Geist Software Labs. You can find out more at the Geist3D home page http://www.geist3d.org including movies, screen shots and a forum.
Geist3D is a graphics engine complete with an integrated development environment. It includes source code editors for Python script and the OpenGL Shading Language as well as drag-and-drop interfaces to construct 3D models and Petri Nets. Geist3D including user manuals and demo models is now available at www.geist3d.org. The source code has also been released under the GPL and a call for participation is now being extended to graphics and open-source community.
