I use a dark system theme, Cillop-Midnite: http://art.gnome.org/themes/gtk2/1317
It makes text a light gray by default, and backgrounds darker gray. It's nice.
GCS uses a white background regardless of my system theme, but obeys the system settings with regard to font color, meaning I get light gray text on a white background. It's difficult to read.

I suspect this has something to do with 3D acceleration. If that's the case, there won't be anything I'll be able to do about it... a fix from Microsoft or Sun will be required.
