  • Followup: RE: How to change ssh port?

I noticed that all FreeXer was doing was passing in string arguments to PuTTY. So the trick is to type into the User box: myname@mycomputer -P 1234.

  • Comment: Can not run programs on a Solaris

Hi, you need to instruct your ssh client to forward X11 communication. Then you should be able to run program. Normally you will get variable DISPLAY set 192.168.1.123:10 where last digit should be above 10. Good luck.

  • FreeXer breaks Cygwin

I have (or rather had) a fine Cygwin installation before I used FreeXer. After removing FreeXer I realized that it had completely overwritten by Cygwin settings! I looked in the registry and moved my mount points back to where they should be, but X still doesn't work under Cygwin. When I try to start X I get messages that no font can be found. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? And moreover...

  • Followup: RE: How to change ssh port?

AFAIK, FreeXer isn't an ssh client. If it is, it's probably calling a Cygwin SSH program, or a 3rd party program like PuTTY. Check the configuration for PuTTY in its GUI; otherwise, bounce around in the cygwin folder looking for a file like "ssh_config", where you should be able to change the port number. HTH, dalecosp.

  • Followup: RE: Startup Question

Start the XWin server on your Windows machine first; an icon should appear in the system tray area. PuTTY should be configured with X forwarding. PuTTY is an unrelated third-party program and will not automagically do anything for you. When PuTTY is called, load the proper config for the remote host (which should have X-fwd as I said) and log into the PuTTY terminal in your accustomed...

  • Followup: RE: Putty Setup

Configure PuTTY to remember ... generally, this involves some clicking around on the PuTTY graphical interface and then saving the profile with an associated hostname or ip address. You can then access the saved settings for this host by loading that hosts' configuration from the front menu. HTH, dalecosp.

  • Followup: RE: Welcome to Open Discussion

This is not a "fax server", and has little to do with faxing. "FreeXer" is an implementation of the so-called "X Windows System". With FreeXer, you can run Unix-like/Linux programs in graphical mode on your Windows desktop. HTH. dalecosp.

  • Comment: The entire program doesn't work.

Yep, me too, I have the same problem on a French Windows XP system.
