FMTA is a simple SMTP/POP3 server designed to run on Fox boards (Fox board is a small but powerful embedded computer running a complete GNU/Linux system).

FMTA - Simple Mail Transport Agent (MTA) for Fox Boards. Copyright (C) 2008 Matteo Morelli -------- Version 0.7 * BUG: Malformed emails caused some troubles. * Primitive spam filter based on a blacklist of words. See supplied fmta.conf file. -------- Version 0.6 * Better performances under *heavy* traffic (pop3 should no longer crash). * BUG: error relaying big emails (duplicated or failed send). * Minor bugs. -------- Version 0.5 * All programs are now in just one executable. * Mailbox management from command line. * Demons create filesystem structures at first execution. * Code almost rewritten from scratches (really simplified). * Reduced memory usage. Better performances under heavy traffic. * Passwords are encrypted using MD5. * Minor bugs. NOTE: please review your full installation (see readme.txt). Simply overwrite the executable file will not be enought. Data storage is compatible. The server will still read and accept the plain text passwords in old mailbox directories but I suggest you to replace them with their md5 hash (fmta -n). -------- Version 0.4 * Removed 4MB limit on email size. * Reduced memory usage. * New config parameters: User_Quota, Max_Email_Size. * Start/Stop demon scripts. * Minor bugs. Note: Please update your fmta.conf. There should be no incopatibilities with prevous version, but I couldn't test it, so I suggest everyone to fetch your emails before upgrading the programs. -------- Version 0.3 * Better alias support (working on VFAT filesystems, too). * SMTP out to relay host now supports authentification. * Reduced memory usage. * BUG: POP3 RETR command returned fmta internal header as well. * Minor bugs. -------- Version 0.2 * Parsing of config file is stronger. * Relay demon sends back an email for faulty emails. * Added "fmta" report tool.

I'm back with 0.6. No features added, but services should be much more stable. I was planning to move from a fork-based server to a multi-thread one, and actually I wrote it. After tests, I found out that that version consumes far more ram and has got worse response times. Moreover I can see several fmta processes in my box (shouldn't be just one?). I'll further investigate... Stay tuned!
The foxboard I'm using in my production environment seems to crash (pop3 demon only) when serving a lot of concurrent users. I'll fix it as soon as I'll be back from my business travel. Stay tuned!
If you're upgrading your installation, please carefully read README.TXT You'll find a lot of news!

I'll release 0.5 in a couple of days. News? YES! I've almost rewritten everything from scratches. Code is cleaner, deploy is simpler, managing account is now professional. Stay tuned!
