Founded in 1997, FlightGear is developed by a worldwide group of volunteers, brought together by a shared ambition to create the most realistic flight simulator possible that is free to use, modify and distribute. FlightGear is used all over the world by desktop flight simulator enthusiasts, for research in universities and for interactive exhibits in museums.
FlightGear features more than 400 aircraft, a worldwide scenery database, a multi-player environment, detailed sky modelling, a flexible and open aircraft modelling system, varied networking options, multiple display support, a powerful scripting language and an open architecture. Best of all, being open-source, the simulator is owned by the community and everyone is encouraged to contribute.

I actually like it, but my hardware doesn't support it.
Having fun with flightsims since 1986. Before and after MSDOS-MSFS bullshitness. I discovered FG in 1997, since that I feel free in the best simulation environment ever made. I can fly in freedom, I do can learn coding, change and share aircrafts and any other components with my airfriends. FlightGear is a friendly flight simulator.
I'm enjoying it, every day! I'm running FGFS 3.5 on Mac OS X 10.10.3
A wonderful flight simulator with a wide range of aircraft and really beautiful scenery. It's quite challenging for a beginner to come familiar with the program, but with a bit ambition you can enjoy this great flight sim. Another aspect: Anyone can contribute to the project and so anyone can help making FlightGear better. Big thanks to all people, who have contributed to FlightGear, this is an awesome piece of work!
FlightGear is a fantastic flight simulator with a huge variety of excellent aircraft, beautiful scenery, and realistic flight dynamics. It can be tricky to install, configure, and run, but the fun of it makes this effort well worth your time.
