Hmm, but looking a little more closely at the install script and the setup.log, maybe MySQL isn't really set up yet. At least running ./flamenco/software/MySQL-python-1.2.0/test_MySQLdb_dbapi20.py doesn't succeed. I'll go back to the basics.

Okay, i'll dig a little deeper: i just thought this might be a simple detail that didn't happen to get documented.
This is what made me think MySQL was installed (but you may well be right that there isn't a database yet):
Please provide login details for an account on your MySQL server
that has access to an existing database or permission to create
a new database in which...

Well, this is highly Linux dependent. It might even be that mysql was set up without any database. In this case, do init_db or something like that. I would suggest you google/bing/yahoo/somethingelse for the name of your gnu/linux distribution (e.g. ubuntu) and mysql.
BTW: Are you sure that you even installed mysql on your machine? Is it running?.

I'm trying to install into Ubuntu 9.10 (running under VMWare). I think things are installed correctly, but when i go to run the example with
flamenco/bin/flamenco import Downloads/flamenco-1.0/example/
it asks for login details for an account on MySQL. That's reasonable enough, but since the installer set up MySQL (not me) i don't know how to access it or what the credentials might be.
