This is happening to me also. It started when I updated my mysql database to 4.1.22 sequentially from 4.0.25.

the way i test the mysql connection is to run the datacon.php page by itself. there were no error messages displayed. If I change the password then i get an error message.

i think you have to have Register Globals "ON".
