I have been reverse-engineering the .PES file format. The documentation I've found online has been quite innaccurate and incomplete, so I'd like to get my discoveries out in the open. I can read and display the files with almost perfect accuracy, except the colours are wrong sometimes. There must be some kind of palette or thread data stored in the file which I haven't figured out yet. Is this perhaps what resides in the PEC data segment?

Also, I've written a windows explorer Shell extension which renders thumbnails and icons (only tested on Windows XP but I'm sure it'll work on Vista and probably Windows 2000). I think Embird has something similar but mine is a LOT faster, and also renders tiny thumbnails when you're in Icons view. I don't have anywhere appropriate to host the installer and code, and I don't think it's worth starting a new SF project for, but let me know and I'll email you what I have so far.

If you're still around, would you like to combine our code? I'm not really looking to contribute directly to the modder / editor (it's pretty good already), but I would like to throw some useful code in. I'm about to start working on a embroidery file organiser / database tool. PE Designs has their "Design Database" which is ok, but it seems that none of the available commercial software is worth the price the vendors are asking.

Heh, this is kind of a strange project to be working on, but after seeing my mother's frustratoin with trying to view and organise her files, this seems like a worthwhile endeavour, if only just to get re-acquainted with Win32 coding (it's been around 10 years since I last wrote pure windows code!).
