Description
elementary is a software platform; a unified computer operating system. We have a commitment to a particular toolkit (GTK+) and support a preferred programming language (Vala). We decide how our apps will behave. Sometimes we take control and shape the out-of-the-box experience as much as we possibly can by creating our own apps. We've created an application development framework (Granite) and other developer tools that are designed to help developers build apps specifically for our platform.

elementary OS is far and away the most pleasant Linux distribution I've found to date - it is elegant, straightforward, and fast. It helps me get things done by staying out of my way. I've used it daily with fewer problems than commercial alternatives and can't imagine using anything else. Thanks to the elementary team for all their hard work making this wonderful OS a reality!

Using the current Beta and find it already more beautiful, consistent and stable than latest Ubuntu with Unity. You guys rock!

I have been using elementary Luna since the early alpha on my production desktop machine and I have to say it has been the smoothest and loveliest distro experience bar none. Besides the obvious quirks you will get with any alpha/beta OS (though seriously, I have not had many) elementaryOS Luna has been an absolute joy to use, has an incredibly well thought out UX experience, and is in my humble opinion the finest looking distro out there. I would have to say the only downside is that they need more developers. But I think once Luna goes gold and people start to fall in love with it, the developers will come. :)
