Fetch Info Problem

First i would like to thank the creators of elibrary. Thank you so much
I tried e-library just yesterday and I'm so glad i found such software to help me manage my growing files of ebooks.

The only thing i noticed is, at first it i had no problem fetching data from the web, on the following day (this morning) i can no longer fetch data from the web :( I keep getting "Failed fetching book's info" error. I assumed that maybe, the web link to where the book info is coming from is not available so i waited for almost 3 hours and tried again but of no avail. I do hope that this problem can be resolved or if this problem is on my hardware side i do hope there could be a solution by expanding your "Settings" option to help us.

Once again, thank you very much. I do sincerely hope i can help even in my small way for the development of this project.

    Thank you.

What is the name of the book? ISBN?
I just tried to fetch info myself and it seems to work.

    Hi,

    I can't reproduce the problem.
    Lets try this way:
    browse to http://isbn.nu/0596003196
and see if a page with your book's info loads. (C# and VB.net)

Do you have visual studio 2008? c# experience?

    Regards,
    Amir

I think i had figured out the problem: The happened when i tried to fetch book info of so many books (a hundred plus i think). I assume (it's just an assumption although) that

    1. isbn.nu had blocked my ip address because i continuously run into their traffic so many times. Also, after the error i can not access isbn.nu even on my browser.

    2. or maybe isbn.nu is down during the time i was fetching book info.

** Yes i have a little experience on visual studio (Visual VB). :)

    Best Regards..

    Could be.
I never added more then 20 books at a time.
But if you can't access via browser than they probably blocked you.
Maybe clearing the IE cache and changing IP will help.

I'm planning to stop using them and get the info from Amazon, B&N, and others
but it will be a while till it's ready.

As for the .Net question, I`m looking for developers to assist/join the project. There are many features on the table, interested?

    Greetings..

clearing the browser cache didnt help. i haven't tried changing IP yet because im inside a fixed ip network.

I have tried creating a similar project before, but it is not intended for ebooks but for our school library (im a system admin at a school here in the Philippines) but i was not able to finish it. I fetch data from http://www.isbndb.com and the problem i encountered was thay also have a daily limit. Maybe i can help in small ways but i can not commit much time.

I'm having a similar problem after fetching info for about 50 or so titles--my IP has been blocked to isbn.nu.

Many thanks to the creators of this valuable software! and can't wait for future updates!

    Greetings...

A simple remedy is changing/renewing the ip address if you are directly connected to the internet/modem (not inside a LAN). I tried it after the problem, then it works once again. The only problem is you have to renew/switch off your modem/router everytime the error problem occurs.. :)

Thank you for the kind words.
Some of the future updates are listed here: http://openelibrary.org/future.php
and you can post on the feature tracker any requests you might have.

As for the fetch info issue: i didn't expect this problem, but i promise to fix in the next version, which is due in august.

planned to be released this month.
    beta version is already available:
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/ebooklibrary/files/Testing/Install_eLibrary.msi/download

    but it's not stable yet....

This program is exactly what i have been looking for. I am very excited to watch it progress. Unfortunately I am having the same Fetch problem with release 2.5.8. Downloads 15 - 20 descriptions, then fails.....
  16. 2009-09-25 09:06:27 PDT
I made a small change in version 2.5.10, and tested it on a 100 books. didn't have this problem. Please upgrade to version 2.5.10 and let me know if this issue continue.

0727914472 -> Failed fetching ISBN Info later tested isbn.nu/0727914472 -> it was available. re-tested eLibrary for a couple of times -> the same error I can fetch isbn for some books, but none for some others like 0727914472, 0727916017 :-(
  18. 2009-09-29 03:25:06 PDT
Worked MUCH better for me, but still gets to a point and no longer retrieves book info. Seems to be faster as well. I'm running through a huge folder (11k files)... If you'll add a 'scan sub-folders' option I can do additional large-scale testing.

does the ui handles so many books well? or is it loading slowly?
  20. 2009-09-30 16:17:24 PDT
eLibrary is using Google books these days. unfortunately not all the books are cataloged in their service i checked the ISBNs u gave, and they don't appear on their search. they are valid and exists, just not at Google.
  21. 2009-10-01 03:11:33 PDT
Actually it handles the large quantity of books quite well. Much, much better than other similar tools I have tested. I'm going to make another test load today, so I'll try to determine how many books it will retrieve info on before stopping (it may be a time issue as well).

Congratulations on your new updates. Just some few minor observations. 1. Faster processing but cant retrieve book info of some books. Can you please try to find option that can make users choose other Data source aside from Google (maybe from sources from previous versions). 2. The thumbnail covers are smaller. 3. Better user interface :) Cant control column width on grid while adding books though.
  23. 2009-10-06 16:18:36 PDT
Thanks, I`m working on getting more good and legal data sources. I know the thumbnails are smaller, it's what google service offers. i`m also trying to improve this issue.
