thanks for your help. Eventually I found the folder (it was hidden). After deleting that folder the program works again.

When a new units system is created, you enter all of the units. When you select the newly created group from the dropdown menu the units selected appear, but when you scroll down to see the rest of the units they all appear blank.
This carries over into the spreadsheet, an example is if you create a heat exchanger, the units for area and heat transfer coefficient show nothing.

If you don't find the "DWSIM" folder, try to find the "Daniel_Wagner_O._de_Medei" at the same place and delete it... just remembered that the Framework creates a folder with the author name instead of the program name...
