  • Using DKMS for driver Management

Hey All, I have decided to take the initiative of switching to a better management system for the next revision of Driver On Demand. DKMS (http://linux.dell.com/dkms/dkms.html) is a driver management system designed by Dell released under the GPL, that not only supports both binary and source packages, but can also patch the source for specific versions of the kernel. Directly from...

  • Followup: RE: module-assistant of Debian

Hello I've tried "module-assistant" in Debian and it's work good for sources of driver that exist as source package. It's has list of kernel modules, that I can update. This program download source package, prepare kernel and module sources, compile and make debian package with compiled modules. With 2.6.x kernel is not work with all modules why not all sources is prepared for...

  • Followup: RE: Spelling errors

Hi I think that you can add now .linuxdriver file for PCI and miniPCI buses. I don't know names for CardBus devices. For usb you need use name "usb". Also may be good to put Vendor/Product IDs to hotplug and kudzu projects. Best Regards. Iouri Atiounkine.

  • Ability to find drivers manually or turning off service

In addition of security risks, there are times when DOD simply cannot connect to servers containing the drivers. After all, it is possible that driver information file contain an web address that is out of date. Besides, constantly monitoring device (un)plugging status eats away processing time, and it may set off firewalls, which will encourage users to compromise their own machines just to...

  • Spelling errors

Hi, nice (and urgently needed) project! I just glanced through the .linuxdriver file format, and I have the following comments: - it's "mandatory", not "manditory" or other abominations ;) - what about *external* firmware files required by the driver? should these be listed in the text file, or instead getting fetched by the driver install script itself? I...

  • module-assistant of Debian

Hi, I have found a program "module-assistant" in Debian that "helps users and maintainers with managing external kernel modules". I've not used it yet. I think it's may be good to support this program in "driver on demand". http://packages.debian.org/unstable/misc/module-assistant *** My email is working on slow ISP and I can't change now to other ISP...

  • New Linux Driver Search engine under development

Well, the stats have been dropping on this site. I'm guessing people are under the impression that I have stopped working on driver on demand. The reason that I have been quiet has been that I have been working on a online driver search engine which will work eventually with Driver On Demand. So far, the base has been developed, and I am working on a few more changes to make it usable (the...
