  • Comment: Item Number Range validation

Tested in Testing Branch - Manifest Maker version 1.4.1 A minor issue: The reset function is not resetting the list of files in the Directory Path section of the form.

  • Comment: Checksum Checker - better handling of failures

    That sounds good to me.

  • Comment: Checksum Checker - better handling of failures

I'll probably do the following: If an error is found, wait 10 seconds and check again. If it still fails, immediately report an error via email. Record the error in an error list. For subsequent errors, wait 10 seconds and check again. If it still fails, just add the error to the error list. At the end of the run, check each error in the error list again. All errors that still fail are...

  • Comment: ChecksumChecker - automatically start a check on startup

Checksum checker now runs on the server. It is not automatically started when the server is started, but as the server being restarted is such a rare event this should not be a problem I'll leave it to Al and/or Chris to decide whether to implement automatic starting, or to just close this feature request.

  • Comment: Enhancements to Checksum Cheacker Reports

As I have already mentioned to Alan, I do not see the need for more than one account to get the emails. I could still be convinced otherwise. The 'user' person is not interested in getting messages from checks of backups. Sure, both the user and the admin are interested in runs against 'production' but we can communicate if there is a problem (Im sure we can make that effort) If it was...

  • Enhancements to Checksum Cheacker Reports

Hi Guys, Can we have reporting of Checksum checker enhanced - At present an email is sent at start up time to the dpuser account (specified within the settings tab). This email states that checksum checker started successfully and thats it. What would be more helpful is to have the email sent with the following information. 1. Time the application started. 2. Which database and path the...

  • Comment: Change when checksum checker sends email

sorry, I just had another thought... It is particularly important to get some feedback when we are running checksum checker on the servers - there is currently no easy way to tell if checksum checker is actually doing anything. If it starts up, then crashes at some time, there is no indication that things are not working as expected. No normal person should be forced to go through the logs to...

  • Comment: Change when checksum checker sends email

It would also be useful for the sysadmins to know which database and filesystem was checked - they do regular restores from backup which are then checked by checksum checker Start and finish time would also be useful. At the moment, we do not really know how long a checking run lasts. It would be nice to know so we can plan for more data objects. Excessive run times might also point to...

  • Better handling of files received without checksums

I am kind of thinking out loud here... At the meeting with Audio Visual Preservation last week, we briefly discussed the problems in generating checksums and marrying them up with the file_name, item number and the rest of the 'RecordSearch metadata" (titles, dates etc). I have faced this problem myself when trying to make sense of material transferred to our custody without proper...

  • Comment: Checksum Checker on blank database

Tested in Testing Branch Checksum Checker 1.0.2 build 2. I only get an error when I try to run Checksum Checker over a database with no tables. If run Checksum Checker over a database with tables but no data, it returns: 'Checked 0 AIPs. Found 0 errors.'.
