Hi,
I'm trying to use Xdmx on my desktop and laptop. On Both, I ran the command xhost + 192.168.254.2 192.168.254.102. And on my desktop I ran
startx -- /usr/bin/X11/Xdmx :1 -display :0 -display 192.168.254.102:0 -ignorebadfontpaths +xinerama -norender
The output is:
(II) dmx: Generation: 1
(II) dmx: DMX version: 1.2.20070424 (DMX Project)
(II) dmx: DMX Build OS...

Since the code is integrated into xorg/freedesktop stuff now I'm going to echo someone's suggestion to put a big red notice at the top of http://dmx.sourceforge.net/ saying so (and also in the summary on sourceforge if possible).

Would it be possible to add a (big+red) notice that the code was merged directly into from X.org to home page and to project's summary or news at sourceforge? (and a link where to find the documentation)

Sure, but the software at SourceForce's DMX site is something like 4 years old. Any comments about application response time are for very old code. If they are still applicable, they are applicable to the X.org codebase which is tracked elsewhere.

The DMX software has been integrated into the X.org server software. Please download directly from X.org instead of from SourceForge. The code here at sourceforge is rather old and is no longer updated.

Hi,
I am unable to use Xdmx on Ubuntu 8.10 and Gentoo because it crashes at startup. Something similar seems to happens on Fedora according to: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=461096
Another report on Ubuntu:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2008-September/038929.html
Is there any progress on this issue? Or should Xdmx best be regarded as a sleeping project?...

To clarify my post. The above comment about slow response is WRT to application response time, not about DMX project activity.

Monty.

First, Xdmx, is a great project. I've been able to resurrect older machines to get a 3 display panorama. My inspiron, while dual headed, wasn't designed for a docking station and requires constant plug/unplug of VGA cable for home/office - causing wear.
I've tried multiple slave machines but under all circumstances, the response time is incredibly slow on a 100 mega bit network. Mostly...
