After a long hiatus, the De facto project has been reborn! Since its inception the Project Administrator has continued to research and develop techniques for building secure enterprise-level applications. So as always, goal is to develop and distribute a mainstream architecture in conjunction with the open source community. For in doing so, everyone benefits from an example implementation, shared experiences, and improved techniques. The emphasis of the De facto project is two-fold: 1) build the knowledge-base and 2) build the software. Future documentation will go into more detail about both subjects, but a fundamental decision in the base development tools need to be established so installation and development techniques can be applied in a concrete sense. So while this project is not currently affiliated with Sun Microsystems in anyway, all development and other tools will favor Sun Microsystems products. The reason is simple: Sun has made a wide range of excellent development software are freely available, and their on-line documentation and tutorials are first class. Because the project is extensive, the initial De facto effort is expected to take approximately two years. Version 1.0, therefore, is targeted for July 4th, 2008 . In the meantime, there will be early dot releases that project looks forward to working with the open source community in reviewing, refactoring, and improving on to complete an enterprise-level architecture to benefit all.
