czip is a unix based utility written for the cell broadband engine. It allows its users to compress files in gzip format. It uses Jean-loup Gailly's deflate algorithm and is based in part on pigz, Mark Adlers parallel version of zlib.

Version 1.2 is fully functioning.This version allows you to compress files within the 64 bit file size range by breaking up the files into 2 gig chunks. It also changes the transfer of the data chunks to 64 bit, which provides marginal speed gains to the user.
Version 1.1 is fully functioning. It has some enhancements that put the file name in the header and the correct file size of the compressed file at the end. In this version, there is only one header and trailer. The file compression ratio is also improved as a result.
