I just tried columba, configured by pop3 account and pressed the "fetch mail" button. During the first 10 emails I got this error but columba continued fetching the mails:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at org.columba.mail.filter.FilterCompoundCommand.(Unknown Source)

After starting columba the main window has a size of about 5x30 pixel (see attached screenshot).
Tested with the last columba version (checked out from svn today) under Ubuntu Karmic (2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 16 14:05:01 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux) with this Java version:
java version "1.6.0_16"
