yep. choice 2 doesnt work. now I'm trying to download the latest syslinux.exe cause that's the file that is crashing.

For FAT32, I believe the partition size limit is about 2TB.

The http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w251/wellurs/DSC00085.jpg issue looks like it's the kernel/hardware support problem. Could you please give Clonezilla live20091113-karmic a try?

"Is there any way I can this up properly so that a) the image will load on most hard drive types i.e IDE/SATA and most sizes?" -> Maybe you can try to use Gparted live (http://gparted.sf.net) to resize the partition to make it smaller, and manually edit the [hs]da-pt.sf if necessary.
With this modified, smallest image, you can restore to all the larger disk. Rememer to turn on "-k1" option...
