Feature request: Hide favorites and libraries

  1. 2010-08-03 09:05:50 PDT
Hello, I would appreciate three options in the Explorer Settings: - "Hide Favorites" (which hides/removes the Favorite item in the navigation pane of all Explorer windows and open file windows) - "Hide Libraries" (which hides/removes the Libraries item) - "Hide Home Network Group" (which hides/removes the home network group) I know, how to hide them manually by deleting or editing corresponding registry keys, but an one-click solution would be nice. Best regards, fuggi

No, Classic Shell is not intended to be used for things that can be fixed in the registry. What's the point? You click on a button, it will change the registry for you, and then you will have to restart. You can just as easily do this with a .reg file. Or you are expecting to show/hide these items in real time? That's much harder (if even possible), and completely unnecessary.

You can just as easily do this with a .reg file. I would not have asked for these features, if it had been this easy.

Hi, Hi, In first place I want to thank you for your great work on this. It makes the transition from XP a lot easier, because we get what we were missing from it. Sorry for cross-posting (feel free to remove my thread from the other forum), but I thought that the other forum was the only that existed... I also would like this feature. Yes, I know that I can do it by changing some registry keys, but it has a nasty side effect, because the navigation tree pan starts having problems with the refreshing, with the superposition of some folders, which is very annoying... It would be really great if you could find a solution for that, but maybe it's a Microsoft bug... Thanks in advance. Best Regards.

I would also like to register interest in disabling this. Happy to donate again too if I see it go soon :)

Also: No one in this thread has linked to an article covering HOW to do it manually :(

Guys see here: http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/815406-tweaking-explorers-navigation-pan-a-little-bit-further/ I think this can be done without adding this feature to Classic Shell.

Why not add it to classic shell? It's the definitive explorer "fixer"

There are hundreds of registry tweaks you can do to your machine. There are also countless of ways they interact with each other and can mess up your system real bad. I'm sorry, but I don't want to be responsible for this. Then there's also the issue of taking ownership of system registry values, and that can often go wrong and require human intervention.

Well colour me surprised. I guess there's only so classic we're going to get the shell after all.
