  • CEng -14- Semester Ends

A brief look at the week: I know for at least two people working on the project, that schools over. So that means two things. First, there is certainly more time available to work on the project. Second, people are making plans for the summer. I'll try to talk with everyone, and see what's happening. Nothing really new to report on. Important News: 1. Same as last week, just change your password on the linux box when you get a chance. Individual Team Members: Dustin (emoe) - Accomplishments: None Plans: Docs, code, and tweaking the lin box. • CEng -13- Week Late (brushing dirt under the carpet)

A brief look at the week: No time for anything, not even the weekly review. Important News: 1. As was mentioned last week the linux box is up at 4.33.42.227. The usernames are all the same as your nicks on irc, and originally the accounts were unpassworded. However, since over the course of two weeks not everyones changed the password, I've updated all the unpassworded accounts with a default password. I just recently sent out an email to chaosengine-devel that should have the password. So, please logon and change it to something a bit more passwordy. Try to do this soon, because it presents a security risk. Once on to the machine type the command: passwd. To change the password to something a bit more secure. Individual Team Members: Dustin (emoe) - Accomplishments: Nada. Plans: DOCUMENTS (man I need to do this), Survey, and install/configure the rest of the software for the lin box (mainly the name servers). Ryan (Ceiled) - Accomplishments: Finishing school / Finals:) Plans: Notes: Break, planning plans ;) Sam (cmang) - Accomplishments: Plans: Notes: Daryl (masilis) - Accomplishments: Plans: Note: Michael (meyek) - Accomplishments: Plans: Notes: Philip (pjenvey, skyline) - Accomplishments: Plans: Notes: Jason (xsarinx, teekay) - Accomplishments: Plans: School and work. • CEng -12- Linux

A brief look at the week: Everyone's pretty busy just trying to tie up loose ends with school and work. Even with all the different things preventing people from working on the project, more infrastructure somehow fell in to place this week. I'm happy to say that the linux box that was in disrepair is now completely functional. This might not sound like that big of a deal, but it means we no longer have to rely on SourceForge to host our project and backup up the project history. Think about it for a moment. The forums, mailing lists, bug trackers, tasks, are all just as valuable as our code-base, and if we lose any of it we need to go about spending more time, either circumventing the problems created, or fixing them. So it's quite handy :). The rest are just details really. Important News: 1. The linux box is up and running, so log in to: 4.33.42.227 using your IRC nick w/o a password. Try to do this soon, because it presents a security risk. Once on to the machine type the command: passwd. To change the password to something a bit more secure. Individual Team Members: Dustin (emoe) - Accomplishments: I completely finished off the linux box, setup the accounts, and started setting up some software we'll be using over the course of the development of the chaosengine. Plans: DOCUMENTS (man I need to do this), Survey, and install/configure the rest of the software for the lin box (mainly the name servers). Ryan (Ceiled) - Accomplishments: School-work :) Plans: more school-work Notes: Sam (cmang) - Accomplishments: Plans: Notes: Not sure what to say. Daryl (masilis) - Accomplishments: Plans: Note: Doing good, he's just reading up on OS design, bootloaders, and assembly. Same as last week. Michael (meyek) - Accomplishments: None Plans: School Notes: The bastard is ignoring me :). *kicks mike in the shins* Set your damn private profile to public yeh punk. Philip (pjenvey, skyline) - Accomplishments: Plans: Notes: Old quiet sky, he's been busy with trying to hunt down a job I believe. Jason (xsarinx, teekay) - Accomplishments: Plans: School and work. Notes: Since he's trying to finish out the semester, and work two jobs, I think we can cut him some slack. Aaron (zeram) - Accomplishments: The bots still running, but no ops/administration yet. Plans: To continue looking for a job, supposedly he has an interview this week; wish him luck :) Notes: --Dustin(emoe)

  • CEng -11- Late but good.

A brief look at the week: Well I wasn't personally around much during the week. I've been busy trying to setup the linux box where we'll be operating from mostly, which has had my connection up and down quite a bit. The jobs not quite done yet, but that's been the major activity of the week. Important News: 1. The linux box is being worked on, so if you don't see me around, don't assume I've abandoned ship. 2. Consider yourself THOROUGHLY flogged if you haven't setup your skills, and started writing a weekly log. 3. As for the plan of including accomplishments and goals each week, it's in. If I don't hear anything from you guys I'll just leave the spot empty till something turns up. Individual Team Members: Dustin (emoe) - Accomplishments: The harddrive is bought and installed. Now I'm just trying to get Linux on to the thing. Plans: FINISH setting up the linux box; finish and post the docs; finish the poll; & continue to get my ass back in gear ;) Ryan (Ceiled) - Accomplishments: None Plans: Schoolwork Note: He's busy reading the Descent source code apparently =) Sam (cmang) - Accomplishments: Plans: Note: I didn't go hunting for him this week. Daryl (masilis) - Accomplishments: Plans: Note: Doing good, he's just reading up on OS design, bootloaders, and assembly . Michael (meyek) - Accomplishments: Plans: Notes: Same old, working on schoolwork and working with visio for potential interfaces for the CEng. Philip (pjenvey, skyline) - Accomplishments: None Plans: Notes: Not quite sure yet, I haven't spoken with him. But I'll try to catch him before todays over. Jason (xsarinx, teekay) - Accomplishments: Plans: Notes: Same as old sky, I haven't talked with him. He's probably busy with finals at this point. Aaron (zeram) - Accomplishments: Continuing to do the logs (I love this). And he's been working on getting the bot to do more then just log: Like op, retain ownership of the channel! Plans: He's going to continue working on getting the bot a bit more stable, and doing tasks like op'ing and actually keeping control of the channel. --Dustin(emoe)

  • CEng -10- Here we go.

A brief look at the week: Things are picking up, again. The mailing lists have been fixed, they're now being correctly archived. Other then that just some docs and clean up work (CVS, etc). So not the most effective of weeks, but a definite increase in activity ;) Important News: 1. CVS should be fixed. No more problems, period. The lock file seems to be gone. So if you're using wincvs or tkcvs, the only problems you should be having are with the client. 2. I cleaned up the archive for the mailing list, and resubmitted all the old emails. So if you missed any of them you can just peruse the online database at geocrawler.com. 3. The mirror site will be going live sometime the upcoming week as well. So you should all be looking for hand out accounts. That isn't to say that the CVS rep will be active, or anything else. We'll probably start looking for some more unix admins again shortly. 4. Consider yourself flogged if you haven't setup your skills, and started writing a weekly log. 5. I thought it might be nice in the weekly updates to have the plans and goals for each team member. SO, that means one of two things. Either a. I get your weekly posts on Sunday and send this out on monday. Or b. the team writes their weekly plans out on saturday and I continue to get this out on sunday? I tried waiting a few a day hoping we'd have a few more entries this week, but I the only new entry was aaron. Although I was late on this myself. So we'll see how it works. Individual Team Members: Dustin (emoe) - Accomplishments: Documentation and maintenance. Most of the stuff mentioned above. The documentation has grown a bit. So that should be fun to post sometime this upcoming week, to get some comments. Plans: Setup linux box again, post docs, finish the poll, & getting my ass back in gear ;) Ryan (Ceiled) - Accomplishments: Plans: Note: I haven't talked with him all week. Sam (cmang) - Accomplishments: Plans: Note: No contact still. Daryl (masilis) - Accomplishments: Plans: Note: Haven't talked with him all week, or seen him on icq. Michael (meyek) - Accomplishments: Plans: Notes: We haven't talked all week. (I'm starting to feel that this is my fault now :) Philip (pjenvey, skyline) - Accomplishments: None Plans: Notes: No plans, no goals (a good pair) for last week. Jason (xsarinx, teekay) - Accomplishments: Plans: Notes: Lots of loitering in #chaosengine, but no confirmation as to anything else. Aaron (zeram) - Accomplishments: Alright, two weeks straight, he wrote *another* journal entry, and got the bot logging the channel. Plans: Now we just need to get some scripts going for him to keep him alive ;) --Dustin(emoe)

  • CEng -9- Die Further Die! :)

A Brief look at the week: It was a rather quiet week, but it would seem that some small things are still being done, but not major enough to be mentioned. Important News: 1. People still need to either a) Complain that writing a weekly journal is too much ;D, or b)Write a quick journal entry each week. 2. Some people are still on anon for skills, Blah, this is the last week I'm going to ask for it to be changed. Next, I'm going on a crusade, hunting you all down, and floging you to death ;) 3. Things might be quiet, but they're most certainly NOT dead. So fear not things will pick up. Individual Team Members: Dustin (emoe) - Quiet as predicted, and a bit better rested. Ryan (Ceiled) - Nada. No goals, no achievements. We only talked for a few minutes this week, so I'll ask him in case, I missed a detail or two. Sam (cmang) - Still no contact, not really sure what's going on. Daryl (masilis) - We have contact folks :). He's doing fine, although we didn't get to talk long enough for me to find out what he's been working on, or what he was up to. I'll update this later on. Michael (meyek) - Through school meyek's still working on code design (using visio), and a lot of that material is being looked at for applicability to the project. Philip (pjenvey, skyline) - Quiet week so I hear. Jason (xsarinx, teekay) - Not sure, seems to be quiet, but that could be a facade, I'll report back later with some more definite details. Aaron (zeram) - Woohoo!! He wrote a journal entry. You hear that people!? I'm not sure if much else was done last week, but it sounds like the upcoming week will hopefully be the end to our IRC woes, if zeram comes through. ;) --Dustin(emoe)

  • CEng -8- Dead week

A Brief look at the week: Not much going on. All the people who applied for the administrative position responded stating that they were busy with other things, oh well. Besides that, nothing significant happened. Important News: 1. All three important messages from last week were ignored. That can mean a few things. First, no one read it. Second, people are busy. Third, you read it but didn't care. Please, read them and see what it is that you can do to help out. Individual Team Members: Dustin (emoe) - Nada, this week I didn't complete any of my goals. Ryan (Ceiled) - Nada. No goals, no achievements. Sam (cmang) - Sent sam a message two times during the week and I've yet to find him. Daryl (masilis) - The mystery man, still no plans that I know of really other then what he said about three to four weeks ago. Michael (meyek) - No plans, no achievements. Philip (pjenvey, skyline) - Hopefully still reading or finished reading DocBook & XML docs, and familiarzing himself with GL. Jason (xsarinx, teekay) - Wins most active man of the week. From what I can tell he's still dinking around with the website, and working on the PHP scripts for the time managing utility. Aaron (zeram) - Mostly busy with life, but still attempting to learn more about OO design and SGML, from what I hear. --Dustin(emoe)

  • CEng -7- Quiet week (again)

A Brief look at the week: The week was quiet, which I'm hoping isn't going to become a snowballing trend. Personally, I spent most of the week trying to find people to fill some administrative positions, and just doing the routine administrative tasks. As for other team members, I haven't been filled in on any additional details, so I assume that they're continuing to work on there old tasks, or dealing with real life problems :). As for SourceForge, it seems they have been busy, since we now have a new utility called an "Artifact Manager." Important News: 1. Please guys, every week just tell me what you plan on getting done with. We're still really lacking in this area. You don't have to say anything like, "Save the world." I'll suffice with, "Nothing." But, I just want to get an idea what you guys plan on accomplishing, or trying. Very relative sort of stuff. If you're hopeful you can say, "Nothing, but I want to code up the interfaces :)." Something, anything in your journal entries. If you want an idea of how I do it check out: http://sourceforge.net/developer/diary.php?diary_user=110425 And at the end of the week, it would be nice to just have some sort of post saying, how well that all turned out for you. 2. If you haven't turned your skills profile from private to public: JUST DO IT! :) (cmang and meyek) 3. We still need *nix administrators!!! I'd like at least one dedicated person, but the more people the better. Individual Team Members: Dustin (emoe) - I spent sometime at the end of the week trying to contact some people about filling administrative positions, but I've yet to receive any responses. And, I've been looking into to getting additional cash to setup a local linux box for the purposes of keeping a redundant copy of SF at another location. I also spent some time mucking around with the SF mailing lists, trying to figure out why exactly they're not archiving properly. However, I met with little success. Ryan (Ceiled) - Toying around with code, and midterms. Sam (cmang) - I'm not sure where my ol' bud CompuMan disappeared to. I'll send him a few more msg's this week :) Daryl (masilis) - He came in to the channel once or twice during the week, and poofed. I'm guessing working hard on design & reading. Michael (meyek) - Some indirectly related interfaces, that I hope have been posted to the forums by now. Some on and off discussions about games, and things relating to engines. Philip (pjenvey, skyline) - Reading DocBook, XML, and Getting into the OpenGL groove. Oh, and getting VERY familiar with the Unreal engine *wink, wink*. Jason (xsarinx, teekay) - Not too sure, probably a busy week for teekay with school. Aaron (zeram) - Mostly busy with life, but still attempting to learn more about OO design and SGML. --Dustin(emoe) & Aaron(zeram)
