Ok, I finally had a chance to get python2.6 from experimental built in unstable. I fixed all of the deprecations and the one broken test case, and the result is in release 2.19.4, which I will upload shortly. Sorry this took so long to fix -- I really expected python2.6 to end up in unstable much earlier than this. Please let me know if you find any other related problems.
