I am also having the same issue. I am running in Linux and executing the app using "./ccdecoder -c" and it just sort of sits there.
I would expect to have to direct it to /dev/vbi or some other source for CC, as the original author in this thread asked. The --help feature is a little lacking. Without proper docs, I can't figure it out.

just a note to say thats what im also trying to do. i hope to put up a info sheet if i figure it out. has anyone else had experience with this.

Yes. I have several computers with multiple bttv cards. I can have three TV shows (or security cameras, etc) on one monitor using the built-in audio on the motherboard and two extra sound cards.
Side note... if you have 5 PCI slots you can put 5 cards in one machine. If you need sound capture for those 5 cards, use USB sound devices (hard to find, but I found some on Ebay). And you'll need...
