CamStudio at a GlanceCamStudio is a compact little program with some nice features tucked away to maximize its allure. Installation is a breeze. However, when you launch CamStudio, a private product upgrade is offered that has not been verified by SourceForge. You’ll have to decide if you want to take a chance on CamStudio’s private upgrade or not. Yet, once you launch CamStudio, you’ll find several helpful features to make your screen recording journey quite enjoyable. For example, controls to record an entire screen or a portion of it, sound options, and the ability to add comments to videos and screen captures. CamStudio and its codec are released under GPL license.

- Lets you add text comments to videos
|CamStudio lets you create training tutorials and has a nice selection of video styling features.||CamStudio outputs only to AVI with a conversion to Flash.|
- Version: 2.7.2
- Date added: October 19, 2013
- Operating system: Windows
CamStudio records screen and audio activity on your computer to create AVI video files and turns them into bandwidth-friendly, streaming Flash videos (SWF). CamStudio also lets you add screen captions or video annotations to your recordings through anti-aliased images, or by producing a Webcam movie of yourself (screen in screen) on your desktop. And CamStudio comes with its own lossless codec that produces crystal clear results with a much smaller filesize compared some popular codecs, like Microsoft Video 1. Additional options include cursor controls, the ability to record an entire screen or a portion of it, and selections for output quality. Best of all, CamStudio is easy to use and navigate, plus it includes a built-in Help file.

It's really fucking simple. If you try downloading from the CanStudio site (camstudio.org/), you get a 979KB file containing MalSign.Generic.94C (avgthreatlabs.com/ww-en/virus-and-malware-information/info/trojan-horse-generic/?name=Trojan%20horse%20Generic.94C&utm_source=TDPU&utm_medium=RS&PRTYPE=AVF). If, on the other hand, you download from Sourceforge (sourceforge.net/projects/camstudio/) and use the 'Direct Download' link beneath the green 'Download' box, you get the full 11.171MB .exe which installs without problem or 'crapware'.
I don't know why people are flaming this project. Every "hidden adware" review here is false, just installed it and everything's ok.
Humans:) Please Chillax, *that's chill+relax :) The program installation has offers, which you can easily decline, the program itself is free of any Malware, so there you go. if you have malwarebytes the message says: ******* NON-malware detected, Malwarebytes has blocked a potentially unwanted program. Vendor: PUP.Optional.InstallCore.SID.C ******* Non-malware is NOT malware, I know I also go with the first two letters and last two letters:) some of the reviews say the program did not work, it needs the Visual C++ redistributed package, so if it did not work, try uninstalling and downloading a new copy, remember to read what the offers are, and if you are not interested click Decline, and the installation will continue. ********* Sourceforge is a great community and makes great programs available for free, Similar packages are available commercially for around 49.99 d, honest! If I may make a suggestion, Be Kind in your comments and I am guessing you can benefit also from taking time to be kind to yourself too Wish you all a great day ahead.
*DO NOT DOWNLOAD* from CamStudio.org - that version is full of viruses/malware/adware! The SourceForge version is ok, so long as you avoid installing the extra cruft that comes with the new SourceForge installer.
I haven't tried this screen recorder yet. I've been using MS Expressions for awhile and wanted to try something else to do my class demos. I downloaded LiteCam HD from www.litecam.net and tried the trial version. I really like it. It's easy to use and the video processing is fast. For the price, it can't be beat. It can also be used as a game recording software. There is absolutely no virus or malware in this download. No extra toolbars or other junk in the install of LiteCam HD screen recorder. I also really like the PIP feature.
