In the building instructions it says:

This step build-install-opensync.sh is giving me an error on Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic):

Henrik;
I wish the news were more... hopeful. Unfortunately, I have no experience with the opensync project & community. I've been using TBird 3 & Lightning ever since TB3 went beta so, I'll keep my eyes open and make suggestions where I can there.
Thank you for taking the time to write up this summary.
Best,
-Craig.

Hi Craig,
Thank you for your interest in blueZync.
(1):
blueZync depends on OpenSync. OpenSync development is currently kind-of stalled, as past/current developers are otherwise occupied, and no new developers have stepped up.
Due to problems in OpenSync, the current blueZync codebase does not work reliably (for any version of Thunderbird / Lightning).

Hello;
I've been following posts & threads here and there (e.g. [opensync ticket][1]) about bluezync for sunbird/lightning 1.0. I was hoping to get a sense of the status of this now.
If I understand correctly: bluezync works with Tbird2 & lightning versions in a distro's respective repositories. Has there been any movement with TBird3/lightning 1? What can a non-coder do to help?

This is strange - never saw this before!
Please try to run with OSYNC_TRACE and see if you can figure out which dir cannot be created and why.
Background:
blueZync is creating a directory called "blueZync" inside your thunderbird profile directory (and as you get no error messages for this; we must assume that it works OK).
Then OpenSync tries to create subdirectories called...

OK, it would seem that package building does not work at the moment. Could you please create a bug report for that?
I am sorry, but I do not have time to fix it right now.
Anyway the workaround is as described in the link I gave above
