We want to use blat as a library our code can use to send e-mails (not SPAM). I saw the blat dll option but our code is multi-threaded and since blat has loads of global variables (which are fine for a client program) it is not thread safe as a DLL. We could just use a mutex to single thread the blat code but given how processors keep coming out with more cores, that is not a good long term...

My guess is that Microsoft took the position that attachments (inline or otherwise) or _attachments_ and should be flagged as such, rather than showing them as part of the message body, except in the case of embedded attachments (such as image) in HTML emails (aka Rich Text format).
