The development folder contains a beta of biblatex 2.0. With version 2.0, bibtex is deprecated as a data backend. It still fully supports the bibtex file format of course. Biber is the supported and recommended backend for biblatex 2+. You must be using biber 1.0beta or later. Please consider this experimental at the moment.
