  • Amazing update in v1.8, looks and runs better than ever on m1 macs, HUGE thanks to the developers, how can I donate money to this project!?
  • This is an awesome piece of software, does everything I need it for and much more. The dev support is outstanding. I asked about the possibility to maybe add an option to support all lower case field names when saving the files. After a constructive discussion, the developer decided to just always save field names all lowercase in the future, because having an option for this or even controlling the casing manually per field (as I originally suggested), would be overkill. I agree with this decision and it shows, that the developers have a good sense for design IMHO. Thanks a lot!

  • The guys behind BibDesk are amazing. They've just implemented the new SPIRES interface, although it seem to be beyond feasibility at first glance, and they did so just a couple of weeks after I requested this feature. This software has a great history, but also seems to have a bright future, too.

  • This is a GREAT piece of software. I've tried other reference managers, and prefer BibDesk for its: simplicity, versatility, customer support, and cost (can't beat free). I've now accumulated hundreds to thousands of references, and have BibDesk "bibliography" files from over a decade of use. Sublimely robust and convenient. I was inspired to write this review when citing a patent for the first time, and wondered how to download a 3rd party "patent" citation type. After a quick google search I found that, of course, BibDesk is already natively capable of creating custom citation types, as noted in the 2009(!) closed feature request. Thank you Christiaan, Adam, Michael and others for your continued efforts & support!

  • Great application to manage not only papers. I also use it to build a database with custom fields and collect websites, papers and local files associated to a specific project.
  • I’ve used other reference managers, but always end up coming back to BibDesk. BibDesk is rock-solid and does the job - period. Moreover, the program keeps getting better over time and the support is above and beyond expectation. Great product, great work, great team. Ease of use = 5/5 for basic features. I am still learning about the advanced features and capabilities of BibDesk. For example, I don't know what a script-hook is or how it can be used. Features = 4/5 Any program can always get better. For example, finding a way to automatically download a pdf from an imported reference would be a nice feature. I think there is a script for this but I haven't figured out how to use it. Design = 5/5 I honestly can think of only a few minor enhancements to the GUI I would like to see. Otherwise, the program is very straight forward. Support = 5/5 The support is beyond exceptional. I have never been left hanging whenever I’ve had a problem. Never. Great. Support. Period. Developers, if I can be of any help, in any way, just let me know. Cheers, Jason

  • i couldn't work without it.
  • BibDesk is by far the best reference manager there is today. No other one, and I know the crowd, some even very intimately, comes even close to BibDesk in terms of power (features) and ease of use. Also support and design principles are excellent. An open source project that shines. I am working with BibDesk since many years and therefore do refute some of the criticism mentioned here, since some, e.g. the alleged editing of several publications at once, do actually not apply and BibDesk offers excellent means to accomplish this. Some have complaint about a feature missing. First, some of these complaints are not accurate. E.g. "edit of multiple entries at once are still missing" is not true. You can edit many records at once. Select them and menu command "Edit -> Find -> Database find and replace" allows to do that. Finally, there is nothing you can't do using AppleScripts, if you are missing a very specific feature, thanks to the excellent design behind BibDesk.

  • Good, reliable tool that works well in my research workflow. BibDesk, Skim, Texpad for the desktop, and PocketBib, GoodReader, Texpad for iPad. Dropbox for storage.
  • It's rock solid, it's open source, and it writes most of its stuff into a human-readable, industry standard bibtex. That's almost all I could ask for.
  • BibDesk works wonderful.

  • I've been using this reference software for a while. However, most crucial features such as hierarchical groups and edit of multiple entries at once are still not implemented. This made me look for alternatives.

  • bibdesk is fast and stable
  • Great App ,Excellent
  • Beautiful and very useful app!
  • A must for anyone doing serious scientific paper work on the Mac.
  • This app is awesome. The ability to parse a web page and discern embedded references is inspired. This creates a general portal to the web for reference extraction. The UI is clean. Very nicely done. For biomedical work this is an ideal reference manager. HubMed can generate bibtex format reference that this program just eats up. I sent in a $20 donation. You should, too!
