    Have you thought about modifying this project to provide a GUI front-end for Jacksum http://sourceforge.net/projects/jacksum/

    Jacksum is a platform independent utility (written entirely in Java) for computing and verifying checksums, CRCs and hashes (fingerprints) as well as timestamps of files (integrity check). It supports 44 popular algorithms and a lot of unique features.
