This is the best open source video editor I found so far. It supports many powerful codecs and has a clean UI that is easy to use. I use it to re-encode videos from my Nikon D7000 DSLR and screen capture videos made with Fraps. Sometimes I use some of the video filters which come with the software. I have no idea of video editing and I am glad that I don't need to have it because this great software does the trick for me. Very recommended!
