I have used Audacity for the last five years and have found it to be an excellent sound recording and editing program. I generally use it for teaching English as a Second Language. I either use it to record my own voice or to edit recorded sound from other sources, including the Internet, mp3 recorders, or analog. The recordings end up clear and easy to use for my students. The only real difficulty I have is finding the time to go through every available tool to determine what it does exactly.
I've heard many recommendations of this software but for me it simply crashes. Looks like an unstable alpha version.
