Aqsis is a cross-platform 3D rendering solution adhering to the RenderMan standard defined by Pixar. Features include programmable shading, true displacements, 3D depth-of-field, motion blur, NURBS, subdivision surfaces, CSG, procedural plugins and more.
What happens when a talented group of people come together to build a dream? Aqsis: freedom to dream (for all of us)!
There only needs to be a dream! Thanks guys! Aqsis rocks.
Aqsis is a very powerful rendering tool. It more faithfully and reliably implements the Renderman standard than the other Renderman-compliant freeware renderers available, and its already impressive featureset is being expanded continuously.
I had the occasion to use Aqsis which enabled me to reduce the computing times of complex scenes, with regard to very detailed matters like rock, grass and certain complicated effects of light.
Even though I am sort of an insider (I made a small contribution to the code years ago) I want to send my heartfelt thanks to the core developers. I teach a university course on procedural shading, and Aqsis has now completely replaced Pixar's PRMan for the purpose of SL shader programming in lab sessions and project work. To me and my students, Aqsis means freedom to tinker, anywhere and on any platform, without worrying over licenses.
Thanks for this nice tool
