APE is a testbed for evaluation of mobile ad hoc network routing protocols. It consists of a stripped down Red Hat Linux distribution, pre-configured for easy setup, and a set of analysis tools used to evaluate data from tests.

ChangeLog for APE Testbed. 0.1: * Initial Release 0.2: * Fixed documentation errors and added new stuff + clarifications. * Changed APE install scripts for Linux to use /APE instead of /adhoc and added path to lilo * Added support for changing keymaps. 0.3: * Support for LUNAR. * Support for new DSR implementation. * Support for Uppsala University AODV implementation (included). * NEW WaveLAN driver with superspy hack: orinoco_cs. * Added MAC-filter (mackill). * New "patch-o-matic" script to simplify patching of PCMCIA and kernel. * Added README to binary package (apedist*.zip). * New central configuration file in dist/configuration/etc/ape.conf * Mackill support in scenario scripts. * Documentation updates. * Fixed modprobe and iwconfig problems. * khttpd startup script. * Included TTCP. * Updated netswitch script for switching between ad-hoc and AP-mode. * New MP3 streamer called mp3stream. * Added AMP mp3 player. 0.4: * Added "startsync" which makes it possible to do synchronized scenario starting by pressing ENTER on one of the nodes. * Patch for wavelan2_cs 6.16. * Updated tcpdump binary to a version that reads IEEE 802.11 frames properly. * Moved specification of network interface (IFNAME) in "start_test" to the ape.conf configuration file. * Modularization and cleanup of build scripts and Makefiles. * Added config.mk for compile time options. * Patches for newer kernels and pcmcia drivers. * APE now uses defvs. * ISO build option. You can now create a bootable APE CD. * Included wireless tools. * APE build scripts now rips binaries and libraries from the compile system. 0.5: * Use buildroot for APE root filesystem. This vastly improves the cross-compilation ability of APE. * Include DSR-UU * Add support for new Ad hoc routing protocols (kernel Lunar, OOLSR, etc). * Support for CLICK modular router

APE v0.4 is released. Announcement: I would like to announce a new release of the APE Testbed. APE is the Ad-hoc Protocol Evaluation Testbed, developed at Uppsala University in Sweden. The purpose of APE is to be able to perform large scale real world tests of ad-hoc routing protocols. APE is not necessarily just for ad-hoc - use the source code to build your own customized test environment. Key Features: * Use APE to easily distribute and install a pre-configured test environment based on Linux. APE tests are easy to run - use students or colleagues as test monkeys! * APE can be easily installed and run from within an existing Linux or Windows (DOS) environment * Alternatively, run APE from the APE bootable live CD-ROM (ISO image available on the APE download page). * APE has a scripting system which is used to create scenarios that can be run over and over again, so that tests can be reproduced as accurately as possible. Participants are given instructions generated from the scenario file during the tests. * APE has the "Virtual Mobility" metric, that can characterize the degree of mobility of a testrun. * Use APE log files to re-run a test in APE-view, a graphical application that show topological configurations of the ad-hoc network. * Collect log files and analyze them with the APE analysis tools. Calculate packet delivery ratio and much more. * APE runs most available ad-hoc routing protocols.
