Description
Akane is dead; long live Clementine.
Akane (Japanese: 丹音) is an music player that I started coding to toy around with PyQt4's Phonon module. it is released under a mixed LGPLv2.1/MIT/BSD 2-clause license.
DISCLAIMER: Akane comes with no claims of stability whatsoever, and has no warranty. It is therefore not meant for people who want a stable, dependable, and fully-featured program.
Features
- Supports importing and exporting XSPF, M3U, and plaintext playlists as of 0.8.25
- Supports direct downloading of songs from Jamendo and Newgrounds as of 1.1.0, with support for even more sources in the form of plugins. Call it a "music store" if you want
- Separate collection and playlist views (like Amarok and Exaile), allowing songs to be dragged-and-dropped directly from the collection to the playlist
- Has built-in "scrapers" for fetching artist information and lyrics for the current song
- Has had fairly-comprehensive drag-and-drop support ever since 1.1.5
- Don't like dragging-and-dropping songs to reorganize them? There's also a playlist editor from old versions of Akane; maybe you'll like it.
- Has good moodbar support as of 0.5.x and above (Linux only; requires moodbar program to be installed)
- Basic tag editing support as of 0.8.0
- Basic plugin and theme support as of 0.8.3
- System tray-based controls when minimized to the system tray
- Offers search operators for refining collection searches as of 1.0.2
- Is (and always will be) free and open-source. Who wouldn't want that? =)
