Description
AJAX Chat is a fully customizable web chat implemented in JavaScript, PHP and MySQL which integrates nicely with common forum systems like phpBB, MyBB, PunBB, SMF and vBulletin. A Flash and Ruby based socket connection can be used to boost performance.

This is a well written standalone chat client that doesn't depend on external protocols like XMPP, IRC, etc. It uses a database and AJAX to relay chat messages to users. It isn't hard to configure the standalone for any custom session login system either. I'd recommend this to anyone who'd listen.
