AJAP-Shout is an incredibly light weight (using minimal resources) AJAX shoutbox, using the prototype javascript library, and php, that can be customized to fit any layout. A live demo can be found here: http://p27.us/shoutbox_test.php

I moved the js externally and replaced the xml file with a text file, making it easier to work with =)
