    RANT:

Airsnort is a total piece of SHIT. The only people who can work it right are uber 1337 Linux Haxxor nerds who live in their mothers basement, have never been laid, and hack away all day. And they are too damn lazy to make a version that works on Windows all in one file. Because Windows users aren't good enough to join their club of virgins, I guess.

    RANT off.

I've been trying to get Airsnort working on my Dell Latitude CPi-A366XT laptop. For Airsnort, I installed Windows XP Home (no service packs, just plain base XP), 256 mb ram.

I downloaded the Windows pack that was about 8.99 mb of Airsnort files. It actually works enough to open the Airsnort screen.

Network Stumbler 0.4.0 works GREAT on this computer. I downloaded the trial demo of Omnipeek 5.1 and it works too and picks up signals for the whole ONE MINUTE you get in the trial version.

I downloaded the Omnipeek Personal 4.1, but it will not open / install.

I'm using an Orinoco GOLD Classic wireless PCMCIA card, Netstumbler works great on it, and Omnipeek also found signals with it.

But Airsnort just sits there on its fat ass and does nothing. When I start Airsnort, the small black screen comes up, and the Airsnort window opens, but despite trying many different settings, it will show NOTHING. I even downloaded the DWL-650 drivers in case I needed them for some reason. I refresh the Network Device tab, I start in SCAN mode (have tried starting in Channel mode also), I change the 40 and 128 bit crack breadths, nothing happens . I hit the Start, Stop, Clear buttons at the bottom in different orders, nothing happens.

The 40/128 bit crack breadth settings come defaulted to 3 and 2. What should they be to pick up any local signals? 20 and 20? I tried 3/2, 6/4, and 20/20. Nothing.

I also installed Unbuntu 8.04 LTS on another hard drive for my laptop. but being a total noob to Linux / Ubuntu, that is as hopeless as anything.

Any clues anyone can give me?
