One of the goals of the AHITK project is to foster consideration for users of computer stations, whose circumstances are such that a graphical display system would be of little or no use, on its own. More than the forstering of consideration, it is also our goal to provide direct support for these users. As such, we will be working text-to-speech systems into the project. The decision has been finalized, that Festival [1] will be our primary platform for developing the text-to-speech support in AHITK. For users of Debian GNU/Linux [2]: Festival, and its documentation, may be installed with the Debian packages [3] festival and festival-doc. Additionally, the Debian festvox packages (e.g.: festvox-rablpc16k) provide "voices" for the system. Some introductory documentation is in-the-works, for helping our developers to get started with Festival; check the news at http://sf.net/projects/ahitk/ for updates.
