FusionViewer 1.0.alpha Release Note

We are pleased to announce the first release, FusionViewer 1.0.alpha. 

FusionViewer is an open source and multi-platform medical image display package designed to improve the physician's ability to interpret the results of combined positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) studies. The effective display of the fused PET/CT data permits easy viewing of the anatomical information provided by the CT images while simultaneously displaying the functional data provided by PET.

FusionViewer 1.0.alpha Key Features:

•Visualization and quantification of both 2D and 3Dimage data
•Three orthogonal displays: axial, sagittal, and coronal
•Three fusion display modes: alpha blend, checkerboard, and split window
•Fast switching between different display modes.
•Adjustable opacity of the background and foreground images
•Size adjustment of checkerboard grid and split window
•Cross referenced cursor position through all views
•Keyboard entered cursor crosshair position in either physical coordinates (mm) or pixel coordinates
•Control tools of data viewing: navigate, zoom, and pan
•Snapshot of image panel directly copied to clipboard
•Color map effects: grayscale, hot metal, jet, red temperature, red, green, blue, and inverted effect
•Window / level control of display 
•Measurement tools: rectangle ROI measurement, and line measurement
•Supported data format: MetaIO, Dicom (via a converter), JPEG, TIFF, PNG, Interfile and Analyze
•Image Statistics: mean, standard deviation, pixel count, and line length
•Line measurement profile plotting
•Platforms supported: Windows XP, and Mac OS 10.4

Install and use FusionViewer 1.0.alpha

•Mac OS users
  To install FusionViewer, you decompress and untar the downloaded file. Drag and drop the application to your local disk. And run it by double clicking the application icon.

•Windows users
  To install FusionViewer, you unzip the downloaded file. Drag and drop the FusionViewer folder to your local disk. And run the application by double clicking FusionViewer.jar.

Participate in FusionViewer Project

Because FusionViewer is an open-source system, you can participate. If you'd like to become involved, please visit our developer's page at http://fusionviewer.sourceforge.net/developerinfo.html. Here are the following steps that you might consider.
1Read the FusionViewer Developer's Guide (http://fusionviewer.sourceforge.net/docs/FusionViewerDevelopersGuide.pdf). 
2As this document suggests, join the FusionViewer mailing list.
3Obtain access to the CVS repository (read-only, anonymous access), and obtain the distribution using the following procedures.
4Contribute code or fix bugs by mailing code to the list or contacting a developer directly.
5Once you demonstrate your abilities, obtain read-write access to the CVS repository. Access can be obtained by following the procedures described in the FusionViewer Developer's Guide.
