Notes: A Conceputal Stage Demo of the SameDesk High-level 3D Graphics Engine ===================================================================== (c) 2006 OpenSpot, LLC Last Updated: Aug, 18, 2006. What's This? ------------ This package contains a conceptual stage demo of the SameDesk 3D Graphics Toolkit. This toolkit lets web developers create 3D walkthrough scene easily using a high-level XML scene-description and scripting. To keep the essence clear, only the XML portion is the focus in this particular demo. SameDesk is a common workspace for web applications. Optimized for IE 7 but compatible with IE 6 and Firefox 1.5, SameDesk provides a multi-windowing, 3D graphics enriched, and Windows Vista inspired environment where rich internet applications developed using AJAX, Java Applet, Flash, .NET 3.0, and conventional server page applications(ASP, JSP, PHP) can exchange data and automate one another. For full and updated information of the SameDesk project, please visit: http://www.codeplex.com/Wiki/View.aspx?ProjectName=samedesk If the link is broken, go to www.codeplex.com and search for "SameDesk" System Requirements ------------------ - Java Runtime Environment 5 installed as a plug-in to your browser. - Latest version of your favorite web browser - IE, Firefox, Opera, or Safari - make sure Java is installed as a plug-in. How to run this demo? --------------------- Unzip the package. Open the browser to "SamePortal_streets.html", Or just click the HTML file in file manager. What does this demo illustrate? ------------------------------- This demo illustrates the use of XML to describe a simple street scene consisting of just floor tiles, background, and walls. A scene is made up of a master file (streets.xml in here) and one or more dynamically loaded zone files (streetsz*.xml in here). and image resources. The precise XML schema will be found at the SameDesk project site. This is a simple static scene. In actual usage, interactive scripts may be added to add dynamic interactive behaviro and animation to the scene. That is, of course, outside the scope of this demo. May I share this zip file with my friends? ------------------------------------------ Yes. This is a binary build of software licensed in open source terms (part MIT, part GPL -- please refer to the project home page for details). You can redistribute this demo as long as you keep this README.TXT and "driverpad.jar" unmodified. You may modify the xml files and the graphics in your distribution but not the binary. But please - "don't do evil" - such as embedding a virus in the jar in your distribution, or use this to render distasteful, lewd, or insulting images. You know you are a better person than that. May I put the demo on my web site? ---------------------------------- Yes. You can use this to create custom gallery of your own. And you will acutally be supporting the SameDesk open source project in doing so. You are not obligated to give credits to us or link to our project home page. You can use this on a commercial web site if you want. But like anyone else, we appreciate compliements and flattery, too. Constructive criticism, suggestion, correction are equally welcome. Are there going to be authoring or conversion tools for creating galleries? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- We cannot promise anything yet. Please tell us what you need at the user forum on the SameDesk project web site. May I contribute this project? ------------------------------ You will be more than welcome.
