Notes: This package, and the associated plugin package, is abiword version 2.4.1 compiled for the netbook with options "-O2 -mcpu=strongarm1100 -mtune=strongarm1100". Unpack the tarballs to /usr/local: tar xfz foo.tgz -C /user/local. AbiSuite, the abiword application, takes up about 15 MB, while the plugins take up another 1.2 MB. The package includes support for a variety of languages, so space may be freed up by deleting those language files you won't be using. The dependencies of this package are not entirely known, but likely to be similar to the Debian Sarge abiword deb package. md5sum AbiSuite-2.4-sa1100.tgz: b5d12ffbe95fe6054a993e8d7b5bad18 AbiSuite-2.4-sa1100.tgz md5sum AbiwordPlugins-2.4-sa1100.tgz: 96489885b096b03e11a82cff46114381 AbiwordPlugins-2.4-sa1100.tgz As many plugins were made as possible, but this latest abiword package required some libraries that were more uptodate than offered by Debian Sarge. Plugins for openoffice documents (maybe), and Psion documents (sad to say) are not available. The version of abiword that comes with Sarge seemed to crash regularly, so this latest version was compiled. This version seems to be quite a bit more stable. Abiword is a free substitute for such word processors as Word or Openoffice. For more information on abiword see: http://www.abiword.org. 12/11/05 Added 1/10/06: I have forgotten to "strip" the Abiword binaries. "strip /usr/local/bin/Abiword-2.4" and similar on the shared libraries will free up a MB or more of disk space. The "-Os -mtune=strongarm1100" optimization option when compiling may make for better performance.
