File Release Notes and Changelog

Release Name: 2.1 Gamma

Notes:

  ByteHoard 2.1
  Gamma Release
  http://www.bytehoard.org/

  19/8/2005

This is the third release in the ByteHoard 2.1 series. Continuing the theme of the
Greek alphabet, this release sports, among others, these new features:

   - New installer. Not only is it quicker, it also has a 2.0 upgrade option and makes it
far easier for me to write upgrade scripts for new releases.

   - A group editor, so you can actually use the group system.

   - Improvements to FileMail, including a new page that gives you information
     before the download begins.

   - The ability to disable users, so their details and files remain but they cannot log in.

   All this and many bugfixes.

  --- Installation ---

For an installation, extract the archive, set the permissions on the resulting
directory tree so your webserver can write to the files and browse to
http://yourserver.com/bytehoard/install/ (note it is no longer install.php).

  Follow the instructions.

Please take down the administrator password on the final page, even if it's only
  until you change it.

  --- Upgrade ---

For an upgrade, first backup the old bytehoard directory and database
and then erase all files from the old directory apart from config.inc.php, filestorage/
  and cache/.

Then browse to http://yourserver.com/bytehoard/install/ and click 'Upgrade' on the menu.]

  --- Donations ---

Consider donating to improve the state of ByteHoard development hardware. A seven-year-old PC
with a failing hard drive as a server and a three-year-old laptop that overheats if you put it
flat on a flat surface are the current hardware, and while they work, I'm not sure how much longer
they will hold on for. If you want to donate actual hardware, rather than towards it, get in touch.
Although take note of when I'm away.
