Changes: ================= This program is a turn viewer for Galaxy (standard, GalaxyNG or Blind Galaxy), a game of interstellar war for several players. Features include a map with detailed information, a ship designer, a move editor, a battle simulator, a forecaster and online help. See the online help for more information. NEW USERS SHOULD AT LEAST READ THE SECTION "TIPS" OF THE ONLINE HELP! GalaxyView is GPL software, i.e. the Gnu General Public License applies. See gpl.txt for more information. Requirements: ============= - Windows 95 or higher - Screen resolution at least 800x600 using small fonts (a screen resolution of 1024x768 is recommended) - Complete set of turn reports from a standard Galaxy game, from GalaxyNG or Blind Galaxy Note1: For standard Galaxy and GalaxyNG: You have to set the following options in your first move: Option TWOCOL off (this is the default) Option UNDERSCORES on For Blind Galaxy: Don't set the option showopts to false, GalaxyView needs the options section in the reports. Don't set the option battlesum to off, or News will not show much useful information in battle section. Note2: Put turn reports for different games in different directories. Note3: Put moves in directories, which differ from the reports directory. Note4: Turn reports in Unix format will be automatically converted to DOS format. The original file will be saved as <originalfile>.bak Installation: ============= 1. Install GalaxyView to a directory of your choice by starting the self- extracting archive. 2. Start the program, press the button 'Create new configuration' and follow the instructions (press F1 to get online help). Note: If you start the program the first time, it needs some time to create an intelligence file for every turn report. Note2: The file names of your reports has to be of type <name><number>.<extension> where <name> and <extension> are strings and <number> is a number starting with 0 for turn report 0. Example: turn0.txt Deinstallation: =============== 1. Use the program GalaxyViewUnregistry to delete all GalaxyView informations from Windows registry. 2. Delete all GalaxyView files manually. UPX: ==== UPX (the Ultimate Packer for eXecutables) was used to compress the GalaxyView executables. This reduced the size of GalaxyView.exe to 30% of the original size. The GalaxyView archive was reduzed to 70%. If you double click a line in a group or planet table with a + or - sign in the first column, you can edit the appropriate command. . In the ShipDesigner you can now limit the list of ship types to military, transports, all but military and all but transports. . In Forecast you can now specify the mass for trivial battles. . GalaxyNG: MoveEditor now supports = command. . Distance circles now show distance numbers (you can switch this on or off in Options dialog). . You now get a warning if you want to quit GalaxyView, if there is an unsaved move. . If you select a planet in the map and press ALT while selecting another one, distance circles will be drawn for both planets. Bugs fixed: . Blind Galaxy: Forecast sometimes didn't calculate distances correctly. . Showing + or - in first column of group tables now works when sending fleets also. . When scanning planets, the already used number of ships didn't took intercept orders into account. . GalaxyNG: Option BATTLEREPORT was renamed to BATTLEPROTOCOL in MoveEditor . Bugs fixed: . GalaxyView had problems with turn reports, which are a mixture between DOS and Unix format. . Forecaster sometimes didn't send groups on routes for planets with more than one route. . GalaxyNG: When producing cargo technology, Forecaster calculated wrong new value. . When selecting a transport group with cargo technology greater 1, the max speed circle displayed in the map was wrong. . Column 'Max./Cur. Mass' in planet table in forecast dialog sometimes showed wrong values when it should display no values. . Move Editor had problems with X-command (Scrap Old Ships) in 'Natural text' mode. . Display of your own ships in map only worked in current turn. This has been fixed. . New map button 'Show way of ALL groups'. . Sometimes, the Move Editor was confused when creating commands for several groups/planets at once. This has been fixed. . Moves created with 'Put to Clipboard' may have contained commands ending with the space character. This can confuse galaxy servers and was fixed. . NG games: Move Editor now makes sure, that no names with more than 20 characters can be used for planets, ship types, fleets and races. New command 'Design Ship Type and Produce at Selected Planet' in Ship Designer. . GalaxyView had problems with planets named ~ This has been fixed (was a big problem in NG game Weird1) . For every border agreement, you con now (optionally) specify the turn, when the border agreement expires. When this happen and 3 turns before the expiration, you get an appropriate message, when the configuration is started (this can be configured). . "Show way of selected planets..." didn't work when loading orders. This (and some other problems) has been fixed. . GalaxyNG: When specifying the amount of cargo in a load command, but not specifying the number of ships to use, an error occured in forecast. This has been fixed. . 'Declare war...', 'Declare peace...' commands didn't work in group tables. This has been fixed. V2.71 (03/01/01): . When starting an old standard configuration, GalaxyView V2.7 always created new history files. This should only happen once! This has been fixed. V2.7 (02/28/01): . New History dialog, showing historical information about races and planets. The dialog can be used for example to find the following information: . When have you met which race . When have you seen which ship type . When have a planet ownership changed . Race name changes (non-blind games only) . If you select a group in a group list for which a send or intercept order exists in Move Editor, an arrow will be drawn in the map from the origin planet to the new destination if the map button "Show way of selected planets..." is pressed. See online help for more details. Note, that this button existed in older GalaxyView versions, but with a different meaning! . News dialog now contains 'Ships in Production' section. . News dialog now contains 'Ship Types' section to show ship types in tabular form. . Planet View dialog now contains a field 'Origin of information'. This is used for history. For more information read at least the note in the online help of the history dialog. . You can now use the right mouse button on the planet information area below the map to create commands for the selected planet also. . The 'Groups at planet' table can now be printed or saved like most of the other tables. . GalaxyNG: When using the unload-command in Move Editor, you can now specify the amount of cargo to unload. . GalaxyNG: Forecast didn't work for load commands, where the amount of cargo was specified. This has been fixed. . Minor bugfix and enhancement in display of battle result. . Memory leak fixed. . While simulating, Battle Simulator now shows the results (number of wins, defeats, stand-offs) in the bottom left corner of the dialog. . Non-blind games: In version 2.65, command for sending messages to other players didn't work in Move Editor. This has been fixed. . Non-blind games: Forecast didn't work, if the Move Editor displayed the move in raw mode and the move contained messages to other players. This has been fixed. . Blind-games: If game option BATTLESUM is switched to off (which is not recommended!), battles will now be correctly loaded (but will not show much useful information in News anyway). . Minor bugfix in Battle Simulator. V2.65 (12/07/00): . You can now select more than one entry in the planet and the groups lists. With this, you can give a command to more than one planet/group (i.e. select some planets in the planet list (using Ctrl or Shift key!), press the right mouse button and select 'Set Production for Planet to Capital' to create such a command for all selected planets!). . New menu ButtonBar to hide or show the button bar and to show the button bar in a separate window (which can be arranged horizontally and vertically). Configurations now contain position and size of the button bar. . The Windows calculator can now be started from within GalaxyView (either by a button or a menu item). . Non-blind games: If a player have left the game, planet ownership algorithm sometimes incorrectly assigned planet owner. This has been fixed. If GalaxyView shows incorrect planet owner, you have to delete all <report>.gvi files. Note, that you will loose all information changed with the Planet View tool, if you do so. . Ship Designer 'forgot' newly created designs, which are not yet in any report. This has been fixed. . Scan area dialog didn't take into account ships of groups already sent in the current move. This has been fixed. . In rare cases, map didn't show all routes correct. This has been fixed. . Minor bugfixes and enhancement V2.64 (11/21/00): . GalaxyView can now show some given planet commands in the map (use menu item 'Show Commands in Map' in Move Editor). . List of Planets now can display all planets (not only planets from one race), where you have useful information. . List of Planets now displays planets from intelligence also. . If you press shift while selecting a planet in a list, the planet is selected in the map and the distance to the last selected planet is shown. . Battle section in News sometimes reported a victory where it should report a defeat. This has been fixed. . Scan Area dialog improved. . 'Check Move' sometimes reported errors in a message command. This has been fixed. . Minor bugfix in battle section of forecast. . Non-NG games: Move Editor now makes sure, that no names with more than 20 characters can be used for planets, ship types, fleets and races. . GalaxyNG: Move Editor now support H-command and all options. . Big memory leak fixed. . Checkbox 'Show only ship types from current report' now works again. . Possible battles in forecast now takes into account given 'Declare war' and 'Declare peace' orders. . Deleting all races in Chart now works. . V2.62 (10/30/00): . Forecast now shows Stockpiles and Routes. . Ship Designer now shows all designs from other races seen in previous reports. . In Group tables in extended mode, upgrade cost were calculated wrong. This has been fixed. . Non blind games: GalaxyView sometimes showed uninhabited planets as beeing inhabited. This has been fixed. To correct those problems, you have to delete at least the *.gvi file for the latest report. Note: You will loose all information (for the current turn) you changed with the Planet View tool, if you do so! . Blind Galaxy: Turn overview didn't show players left the game. This has been fixed. . Blind Galaxy: Amount of cargo could not be specified in Load command in Move Editor, if 'Display Move As' 'Natural Text' was chosen. This has been fixed. . Minor bugfixes and enhancements. V2.61 (10/23/00): . Ship Designer calculates two new values now (see online help for details). . GalaxyView (again) sometimes had problems with reports, where two battles occured at the same planet. This has been fixed. . Forecast didn't work for empty routes. This has been fixed. . New forecast icon (thanks to Chris Bisson) . Blind Galaxy: Forecast sometimes showed wrong ETA for groups. This has been fixed. . Move Editor couldn't load move with 'Send message...' commands, when move was displayed as raw text. This has been fixed. . Upgrade costs are now rounded up. This is more useful. . If you produce a ship, which takes more than one turn to build, forecast showed a group with number of ship 0. This has been fixed. . Minor bugfix. V2.6 (10/09/00): . GalaxyView now can do a forecast, i.e. it can execute the move available in the Move Editor and then display race information, planets information and group information for the next turn. A forecast also shows possible battles, which can be simulated directly. . Ship Designer improved. . Move Editor can now load moves in unix format (those moves will be converted to dos format and the original file will be saved as <filename>.bak). . Blind Galaxy: Move Editor now supports partial techs for upgrade command. . Border agreements can now be based on planets and co-ordinates. . To sort a table ascending or decending, the left mouse button is now used, because most programs uses only the left mouse button for this purpose. Using the right mouse button on a table will do nothing now. . To fill in a group ID (or a racenbame) in a command dialog, you can now select an entry in a group list (or in the race list). . If you simulate a battle from the News dialog, battle section, you can select, which race belongs to which side (defender or aggressor). . You can now specify comments to be used in every move you create with the Move Editor (see online help for details) . The size of dialogs and table columns should be correct now on desktops using big fonts. . Blind Galaxy: To increase industry by one, you need 0.5 CAP. In Standard games and GalaxyNG, you need 1 CAP. The 'Develop Planets' algorithm always used the 1 CAP for one industry rule. This has been fixed. . Move Editor no longer creates commands with trailing spaces, because there seems to be an NG server having problems with this. . GalaxyView sometimes had problems with reports, where two battles occured at the same planet. This has been fixed. . GalaxyView should now have no problems with names of races and ship types longer than 20 characters. . The formula for the p[kill] value in Ship Designer was wrong and has been corrected. . Bug in planet ownership algorithm fixed. V2.58 (09/05/00): . Standard Galaxy: V2.56 and V2.57 had problems with planet ownership information, if a player left the game. This has been fixed (Standard Galaxy players should delete all *.gvi files created with GalaxyView V2.56 and V2.57). . In rare cases, GalaxyView was not able to read in the Ship Type section. In this cases, some 'Invalid floating point error's showed up. This has been fixed. . In some cases, if you select a group, planet circles were displayed instead of group circles. This has been fixed. . Minor bugfix. V2.57 (08/28/00): . In the 'Develop Planets' dialog, an alternative algorithm can now be choosen. See online help for details. . The value for the field 'Number per turn' in Ship Designer was rounded. Therefore, a value of 0.9998 was shown as 1.000 ships per turn. To fix this problem, the value will now be truncated. . An error occured, if the Ship Designer was opened after a size 0 planet was selected. This has been fixed. . Blind Galaxy: If you save the planet list to a text file, you can now choose to save planet numbers instead of user defined planet names. This is needed, if you want to give the list to another player. V2.56 (08/21/00): . New option 'Secure Group Display' in options dialog. Read the online help for details (please do so!). . All tables, which can be printed can now be saved to text file. . Blind Galaxy: In rare cases, all planet ownership information for some races were lost. This has been fixed. . Move Editor sometimes had shown wrong ETA for fleets, where groups have been broken off. This has been fixed. . Sometimes GalaxyView reported wrong population and industry values for planets. This has been fixed. . If there was a planet where either industry or population equals 0, GalaxyView showed a current mass value of -1 in Planet dialog. This has been fixed. . Map update problems for border agreements fixed. . State of map button 'Show way of your groups' was not included in a configuration. This has been fixed. . News dialog no longer have problems with turn reports with more than 1 MB of size. . You now get a warning, if you create commands with the Move Editor for an old report. . If you switch to another turn and a planet was selected, the group list below the map was not updated. This has been fixed. . Battle list sometimes showed a victory, where it should report a defeat. This has been fixed. . When creating new configuration, GalaxyView now fills in the fields 'Name of Galaxy Game' and 'Name of Your Race' in Move Editor automatically. V2.55 (08/09/00): . Last version had problems when the user selects a size 0 planet. This has been fixed. . List of battles now take into account status of players (in former versions a battle was shown as victory only, if only you had ships left after the battle. Now, its a victory, if all ships of players have been destroyed, with which you are at war). . In battle simulator, some columns were named 'Defence', but they should be named 'Shield'. This has been fixed. V2.54 (07/31/00): . Creating Configurations improved (now it works for games, where the players start with different number of home planets). . Tables containing strings like '1x2.3' or '989.12 / 876.89' will now be sorted by the first number (and not as strings). . Map buttons 'Show group range circles' and 'Show fleet range circles' work again. . Move Editor didn't handle 'Load cargo' command correctly in GalaxyNG games, when the amount of cargo was specified. This has been fixed. . Two minor bugs in Border Agreement dialog fixed. . A new test for 'Check Move' implemented in Move Editor. . If you press 'Accept values' in 'Planet View' dialog, the message 'Intelligence information updated' appeared. This annoying message has been deleted. . GalaxyView now shows in the group tables, if some or all ships of a group have been given intercept orders (and not only if send orders have been given). . You now can add planets to the 'Develop Planets' dialog, which you don't own, but where you have ships. . If you click on a planet with no population, industrie etc., this zero values will now be displayed (in former versions of GalaxyView, nothing was displayed (but nothing means 'not known')). . Shiptypes will no longer be mixed, if you load several configurations. V2.53 (07/24/00): . GalaxyView now shows in the group tables, if some or all ships of a group have been given send orders! . GalaxyView now shows in the planet table, if a planet has been given production orders. . When creating a configuration when the 'show size of battles' button was pressed, GalaxyView crashed the next time it was started. This has been fixed. . When you first created 'Add group to fleet' command in the Move Editor specifying a number of ships to use and then created 'Add groups to fleet' command without specifying the number of ships to use, the Move Editor has deleted the first command. This has been fixed. . When starting GalaxyView, in some cases the main window appeared AFTER all reports have been loaded. This has been fixed. . In some cases, the Move Editor didn't show the ETA of a send command (instead of the ETA, a ? was displayed). This has been fixed. . Selective planet defences could be hidden by windows task bar. This has been fixed. . Minor bugfix. V2.52 (07/17/00): . News dialog now shows routes. . Now it is possible to specify the amount of cargo in 'Load groups' commands in GalaxyNG games too. . You can now use a float value for 'Range Interval' in Options form. . To choose planets for a border agreement, you can now click on the desired planets in the map. . In GalaxyNG, ship types are now allowed with names consisting of more than 20 characters. GalaxyView had a problem with this. This has been fixed. . Blind Galaxy: Race table sometimes showed wrong values in the 'difference' rows. This has been fixed. . Minor bugfix in Border Agreement form. V2.51 (07/03/00): . When selecting a group at a planet, which is in a fleet (not the first one), an error occurred. This has been fixed. . Some columns in bombing list showed wrong values. This has been fixed. . Group lists now have two types to display: standard and extended. This gives a lot more information. . 'Scan Area' now works with more than one group and with a list of planets also. . GalaxyView reported wrong current speed for loaded transporters with cargo tech level greater than 1. This has been fixed. . 'Groups at Planet' list showed wrong minimum speed for loaded ships. This has been fixed (Groups list in News tool showed correct values). . When using turns NOT beginning with turn 0, GalaxyView sometimes crashed. This has been fixed. . When doing a 'Scan Area' command, you can now exclude planets where you have ships already. . If you have planets A and B selected, you can now press shift while selecting planet C to measure the distance between planet A and C (and not between B and C). . Move Editor had problems with Break command. This has been fixed. . Bugfix in Move Editor (when using 'load and send' command). . ETA calculation in Move Editor improved. . DTO calculation was wrong in non-Blind games. This has been fixed. V2.42 (05/22/00): . Chart tool now can display delta values (thanks to Matthew Messana for the idea) . Algorithm to display the players groups in the map improved. . Checking a move which contains a command to send a fleet or to intercept with a fleet gave an error. This has been fixed (thanks to Peter Roberts for the bug report). . Bugfix in 'Develop Planets' algorithm (thanks to Chris Shaffer for the bug report) . If the button 'show planet sizes' is pressed, all planets with unknown size will be displayed as a circle (not a disc) with default size (thanks to Ken Weinert for the idea). . When showing previuos report or 10 reports back, sometimes planets where incorrectly marked as bombed. This has been fixed. . GalaxyView now displays the players groups in the map at accurate positions (even in Blind Galaxy games)! This information is taken from the 'Your Groups' list (not from the map). Selecting a group in the map gives detailed information. . Clicking anywhere in the map selects the nearest object (planet or group). . Zooming improved (better for large maps or deep zooms). .
