OK, so I forgot to ifconfig wlan0 up before I tried to set private parameters. Although the driver reports the right region in the logfile a

iwpriv wlan0 set_Region 2

suddenly lets my AP appear in iwlist wlan0 scan

wpa_supplicant sets my SSID (--> Thanks Calvin!), I set the IP adress manually.

Pinging my AP shows Host/Destination unreachable

Again I looked in the logfile and it seems to me that wpa_supplicant (or whatever instance) can't get a connection to the AP:

... and then it starts allover. Especially the last line causes concerns for me although I have not the slightest idea what it might mean.

iwconfig wlan0 shows me:

wlan0     802.11b/g NIC  ESSID:"HBFL7HK"

Lots of Tx retries! Can somebody help?
