Ok. According to my calendar, Friday 10 May 2002 is our "one year" anniversery. Given Neil's fantastic progress with a "C" parser, Rolf's provisional Java parser, Steve's Python parser, and Brian's lovely Perl parser -- we have some nice set of 'wares to advertise to the world. Also, given that the spec is now relatively stable now due to Oren's most diligent work we could have our 1.0 release canidate very shortly. That said, this gives us about 20 days to "clean-up" for some fireworks? So. I was thinking of making a press-release for this grand event (so we can show-off). A few items: 1. What do we announce. I have... - Release Canidate of YAML 1.0 (Oren,Brian,Clark) - Neil's libyaml C implementation - Clark's Python bindings (in-progress) - Brian's Perl binding (in-progress?) - Brian's native Perl parser - Steve's native Python parser - Rolf's native Java parser Any more or less? (Did I forget anyone?) 2. I'm going to be "forging" the press-release over the next week and will present it for review before the end of the month. I'll need help word-smithing! 3. There is an opportunity for "corporate" sponsors of this announcement. If we wanted, we could ask $100-$200 from each company we work for to be listed as a corporate sponsor. With this money we can pay a $600 fee for the press release to be put on business wire. Thoughts? I'm sure we'll be picked up by the "nerd" wire for free... but if the companies you are all working for would like publicity (and advertising that your company is open-source friendly for potential employees) this could be smart. Note: I'm just tossing this out for feedback... if this is developed solely on your time, it may be a different issue. Best, Clark -- Clark C. It will probably be only about 60% done when we announce, for whatever it's worth. I'm happy to release the partial source code, but there may be political reasons to defer the Python announcement a bit, or at least we should announce that it's a work in progress too. |
