This works for me, ^ looks too much like an > up arrow, and + looks too much like content. Ugh. ` is too quotish to be a good key sign. We have embivalent feelings about % and @. On the one hand, we'd like to keep the Perl association with map and sequence. On the other hand we don't want to use them as map and sequence markers. On the third hand we don't want to use them for map and sequence *related* issues. I'm running out of hands and of ideas on what we could concievably ever use them for. We might as well just unreserve them :-) Let's do a quick visual test on all possibilities: ^ \ key : \ value Obscure. $ \ key : \ value Obscure. ? \ key : \ value Interesting... ` \ key : \ value Ugh. : \ key : \ value Confusing. :: \ key : \ value Cumbersome. :- \ key : \ value Weird. % \ key : \ value Neat. My ranking is: I like '%' best. I'll go for '?' as second choice. '$' and '^' I just dislike. '`' is my next-to last choice. The ':' forms are the worst. Have fun, Oren Ben-Kiki |
