Hi, -corers. Stumble upon a YAML article on kuro5hin today. It's written from the point of view of a developer who's chosen to use PyYaml to manage simple data files rather than XML equivalents. <http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2004/10/29/14225/062> I found some of the comments interesting. I mean this is definitely the widest audience I've seen YAML directly exposed to. It's interesting to see how omissions from the article led to confusion in the comments. Notably: encoding. I think I'd like to emphasize this greater in the YAML in Five Minutes tutorial. Definitely one of the strongest features of YAML is the ability to include a document simply by ensuring it is UTF-8 and indenting it. This is a significant advantage over MIME and XML and many other formats, which mangle the document to make it safe to embed. Some commentors seemed to reason that encoding text for embedding in YAML would be worse than it would be for XML. Anyway, yeah, I think this is a very useful article to mine for feedback. _why |
